The Elwha station records a June high near 67.2°F and a low near 47.2°F at about 360 ft, with 1.39 inches of rain, the third-driest month after July and August. That reading is a rain-shadow reading. The Hoh averages 140 inches of precipitation a year. Days are the longest of the year. Coastal morning fog is routine at Kalaloch and Ruby Beach and usually lifts by late morning. Hurricane Ridge loses most of its snow through the month, but drifts hold on shady north slopes, so a trail that reads clear on a map may not be.

Hurricane Ridge Road is open through the summer, and the Clallam Transit shuttle runs from downtown Port Angeles to the ridge until September 1 (NPS Hurricane Ridge page). Obstruction Point Road typically opens mid-June and runs to October 15, weather and snow permitting. It is 7.8 miles of narrow, winding gravel from Hurricane Ridge, steep in places, and it is not suitable for RVs. Hoh Campground reservations run June 12 to September 6, 2026, Kalaloch and Mora to September 20, and Fairholme to September 29 (NPS camping page). Sites can be reserved six months, two weeks or four days ahead, and unreserved sites are first-come at the loop registration board. US 101 and the paved valley spurs run year-round. June is the month the alpine finally opens up. Snow leaves most of the Hurricane Ridge meadows, which is when the subalpine walking season starts, though drifts hang on in shade. In the valleys the Hoh is at its summer green, and the Upper Hoh Road runs 18 paved miles from Highway 101 to the visitor center. Roosevelt elk hold the Hoh year-round in herds of around 20 cows and calves. NPS asks visitors to stay at least 100 feet away, about three bus lengths. Coastal minus tides keep tidepooling good at Beach 4 and Hole in the Wall.

Audience verdict.

June rewards visitors who want all three landscapes open with a little less pressure than July. Photographers get long daylight and the first clear alpine days. Hikers get the ridge once the drifts go. Families on an early-summer break should book Hoh sites the day the window opens on June 12, and use the Port Angeles shuttle rather than fighting for a ridge parking space. Anyone chasing quiet should wait for the second half of September. Bring layers for the ridge: it is a different climate from the coast, and afternoon wind up there is normal.
