Things to do in spring

Choose one or two outings that fit your dates and the day’s conditions.

Spring woodland flowers

Lower-elevation spring bloom usually peaks in mid- to late April. Walk slowly and leave flowers undisturbed.

May flowering shrubs

Mountain laurel and lower-elevation flame azalea add later spring interest; elevation changes the bloom window.

Scenic mountain views

Choose a drive only after checking the road and forecast. A sunny valley does not establish conditions at Newfound Gap.
