It rewards photographers (Valley floor maples and dogwoods, first snow on Half Dome, low-angle granite light), shoulder-season travelers comfortable with shorter daylight, and anyone who values empty pullouts over Half Dome cable access. It is not a peak-summer family month — high-country lodging is closed and storm timing is unpredictable — but the first three weeks remain a strong family window for visitors with flexible school calendars.
