Getting around in summer

Use the season’s access and safety decisions to choose your outing.

Check the side-road shuttle rules

Moro Rock–Crescent Meadow Road normally restricts private vehicles on summer weekends and holidays when shuttles run.

Reserve and store food properly

Summer demand calls for advance planning. Use required food storage rather than leave food accessible to bears.

Things to do in summer

Choose a shorter viewpoint or a longer outing for the actual conditions.

Giant Forest

Make General Sherman and grove walks the core of the trip. Lower foothills can be much hotter.

Moro Rock

More than 350 steps lead up the granite dome. Choose for your ability and the day’s weather; use the shuttle when required.

Tokopah early in the season

The 3.4-mile roundtrip is a snowmelt-season choice. Do not assume the same waterfall flow in August as June.
