Grand Teton road closures normally affect Teton Park Road from November 1 through April 30 and Moose-Wilson Road from November 1 until about mid-May, depending on conditions. US 89/191 and US 26/287 are normally plowed for winter travel from Jackson to Flagg Ranch. Other roads close with conditions. Check the NPS road map, construction page and WYDOT before driving.

The outer highway links Jackson, Moran and Flagg Ranch. Teton Park Road and Moose-Wilson Road provide separate inner-park drives.
These are recurring NPS winter rules. Mid-May is an approximate Moose-Wilson reopening, and the dirt roads have no fixed dates.

Plan around the normal winter road network, then confirm your route with NPS.
US 89/191 and US 26/287 are normally plowed from Jackson to Flagg Ranch, just south of Yellowstone. Snow, ice and wildlife still affect the drive. This route does not provide a winter car route into Yellowstone's interior.
The Taggart Lake Trailhead to Signal Mountain Lodge stretch is non-motorized November 1 to April 30. NPS describes grooming from mid-December to mid-March. Read the winter-use guidance for skis and snowshoes.
Moose-Wilson is available for skiing, snowshoeing and hiking. NPS suggests Granite Canyon Trailhead parking, subject to access restrictions. Grassy Lake is unplowed west of Flagg Ranch, with snowmobile, ski, snowshoe and hiking use only after NPS determines adequate snow cover. Check the road map and construction page first.

The winter closure covers the inner road between Taggart Lake Trailhead and Signal Mountain Lodge.

The rules change when snow covers the road.
Biking is allowed after November 1 until snow covers the road, and again after spring snowmelt until April 30. Once snow covered, bikes, snow bikes, fat tire bikes and roller blades are prohibited.
Pets are allowed on Teton Park Road after November 1. Once snow covers the road, leashed pets can use the multi-use lane. The winter rules require a leash no longer than six feet.
NPS warns its map can miss short-term closures and delays.

Quick answers to the practical questions below.
The September 2025 NPS contingency plan says park roads generally remain accessible during a lapse in appropriations. Safety issues, including weather or road conditions, can require closures. The plan also says regular road and trail condition updates will not be provided. Seasonal access rules still apply; check official park and state travel notices before leaving.
