Seven campgrounds and the Tent Village, compared.
The short version: pick Colter Bay RV Park or Headwaters if you need full hookups. Pick Jenny Lake if you're tenting and want to be a few hundred yards from the lake, but plan on 7 nights at most. Pick Headwaters if you want showers included in the price. Gros Ventre, Colter Bay RV Park, and Signal Mountain have the longest seasons, so they're the shoulder-season picks. Lizard Creek has the shortest season and the tightest RV limit. Every figure below comes from the NPS camping and hours pages, the NPS campground records, and the two operators' 2026 pages, checked September 11, 2026. Where the NPS record and an operator's booking page disagree on rates or limits, we use the operator's page and say so below. The 2026 seasons come from the park's hours page, and the dates below are first and last nights: each campground closes the morning after its last night on Recreation.gov. RV limits are total length, and fees are per night before tax.

How to book.
Every campground books on Recreation.gov, up to six months ahead. NPS doesn't allow doubling up in a campsite and has no overflow facilities, so if you don't have a site, plan to sleep outside the park. The entrance fee is separate, and you don't need a vehicle reservation to get in; see Grand Teton fees.
Where the sources disagree. For Lizard Creek, Signal Mountain Lodge's 2026 page gives a 25-foot RV limit and a $53 rate, while the NPS record lists 30 feet and $49. That page also ends Lizard Creek's season on September 7, but the NPS hours page gives September 13, and Recreation.gov takes bookings through the night of September 12, so we use the park's date. For Signal Mountain, the operator's page lists $59 a night and $83 with electric hookups, against $55 and $79 in the NPS record. Colter Bay RV Park has 112 full-hookup sites: the NPS table counts 102 pull-through and 10 back-in, and the operator's page says 12 back-in. We use the operators' current pages for rates and limits, and the 112 total both sources give. Gros Ventre's nightly rate isn't published on the NPS or operator page, so check it on Recreation.gov.
Tent cabins. Colter Bay Tent Village has 66 tent cabins at $104 a night. Its 2026 season ran May 22 to September 7, so it's closed until next year. Each has log and canvas walls, two sets of pull-down bunks for four people, a wood stove, and lighting. Sleeping bags and pillows aren't included. Headwaters has 40 camper cabins at $102 a night.
RVs: where your rig fits.
Full hookups are at two places only. Colter Bay RV Park has water, sewer, and 20, 30, and 50-amp electric on all 112 sites, and Headwaters has 97 full-hookup pull-through sites. Both take rigs up to 45 feet, though Colter Bay RV Park's back-in sites stop at 30. Gros Ventre, Signal Mountain, and Colter Bay Campground have some electric-only sites, and Colter Bay's 13 are ADA-accessible. For dry camping, Gros Ventre and Colter Bay Campground take RVs up to 45 feet total, Signal Mountain up to 30, and Lizard Creek up to 25, per its operator. Parking pads vary a lot at the Signal Mountain Lodge campgrounds, so check that your site fits. Jenny Lake is tent only: no trailers, campers, or generators, and your vehicle must be under 14 feet long and 8 feet high.
Colter Bay Campground has a free dump station and potable water fill, Gros Ventre has a limited-use dump station across from the office, and Signal Mountain has one too. Lizard Creek has no hookups, dump station, or water fill. Showers are included with the fee at Headwaters. At Colter Bay, showers and laundry cost extra at the Colter Bay Launderette, Signal Mountain's are at the lodge, and Jenny Lake has pay showers nearby. Gros Ventre and Lizard Creek have no showers. Generators are allowed only in Loops A, B, and C at Gros Ventre, and Signal Mountain's last loop is generator-free.
Vehicles over 23 feet long or 8 feet wide, and anything towing a trailer, can't drive the Moose-Wilson Road. It's also closed between the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve and Moose for construction from September 8 to November 15, 2026. Our Grand Teton road closures page has the rest.

Camp rules that change your trip.
Stay limits are 7 nights per person at Jenny Lake and 14 at every other campground, and no more than 30 nights in the park a year. At Jenny Lake, Signal Mountain, and Lizard Creek, a site holds up to 6 guests, 2 tents, and 1 vehicle.
NPS says most sites come with modern comfort stations, potable water, a metal fire grate, a picnic table, and a metal bear box. Colter Bay RV Park has no fire grates. NPS recommends carrying bear spray in every part of the park and keeping it within reach, not in a pack; see NPS bear safety.
Car camping or sleeping in your vehicle isn't allowed in pullouts, parking areas, picnic grounds, or anywhere outside a designated campground. Overnight parking at a trailhead needs a backcountry permit.
Backcountry camping. A backcountry permit costs $20 plus $7 per person per night, paid on Recreation.gov (see the NPS backcountry permits page).
Camping and the crowd calendar.
The camping season is short, and it tracks the crowds. April sees 10% of July's visits, and only Gros Ventre opens, on April 27. May runs 42%: Jenny Lake opens May 2, Colter Bay RV Park May 4, Signal Mountain May 8, and Colter Bay Campground and the Tent Village on May 21 and 22. June is 86%, when Headwaters opens on June 7 and Lizard Creek on June 12. July is the peak, and August runs 92%. September is still 77% of July, and the closings start: the Tent Village on September 7, Lizard Creek on September 13, and Jenny Lake and Colter Bay Campground on September 27. October falls to 34%. Headwaters closes October 4, Gros Ventre and Colter Bay RV Park October 10, and Signal Mountain, the last, October 11. Every campground in the park closes for winter. Our pick is mid-September: most campgrounds are still open, it's quieter than August, and nights average 34°F, so pack for cold.

Free camping on Grassy Lake Road.
Grassy Lake Road, in the John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway west of Flagg Ranch, has 14 free, first-come, first-served campsites in eight areas, reachable once the road opens in mid-June, per the NPS camping page (the NPS Flagg Ranch page says after June 1). They're primitive, with no water, but they have shared toilets, bear boxes, and trash. Camp only in the designated sites, store food properly, and park only in parking areas. The road runs 49 miles to Ashton, Idaho, 36 of them gravel, and NPS recommends a high-clearance vehicle.

How much does it cost to camp in Grand Teton National Park?
Published 2026 rates for a site with a vehicle are $53 at Lizard Creek, $56 at Jenny Lake, and $59 at Signal Mountain, Colter Bay, and Headwaters tent sites. Electric sites are $80 at Colter Bay and $83 at Signal Mountain. Full-hookup RV sites at Colter Bay RV Park and Headwaters are $112 to $117. Tent cabins are $104 and Headwaters camper cabins $102. Gros Ventre's rate isn't on the NPS or operator page, so check Recreation.gov. Rates are before tax, and Grassy Lake Road sites are free.
How far in advance can you reserve a campsite in Grand Teton?
Up to six months ahead, on Recreation.gov, at every campground in the park. NPS says all campground sites are reservation only, and doubling up in a site isn't allowed.
