Which airport for Grand Teton?

NPS says Grand Teton has four road entrances, and that it can take hours to drive between them, so check the road at your entrance before you plan. Three have names. Moose is just off the highway north of Jackson, on the Teton Park Road. Moran is the way north toward Yellowstone. Granite Canyon is on the Moose-Wilson Road near Teton Village. The Jackson Hole Airport started commercial service in 1946, before the park grew around it, and NPS says it's now the busiest airport in Wyoming. Because it's inside the park, parking there is limited.

Every airport-to-entrance drive.

Every airport-to-entrance drive we route. The dashed line is Idaho Falls to the Granite Canyon Entrance on the Moose-Wilson Road, which NPS closes from November 1 until mid-May, based on conditions. NPS also bars vehicles longer than 23 feet and 8 feet wide, and vehicles with trailers, from that road.

Jackson Hole is so close that the drive barely registers: 6 miles to Moose. From Idaho Falls, NPS says you'll go over Teton Pass or through the Snake River Canyon, depending on season, vehicle size and driving experience. Our route is the fastest road the router found, 104 miles, and it doesn't make that choice for you. The Idaho Falls and Salt Lake City drives both come through the town of Jackson, and Salt Lake City's takes 5 h 59 min.

Match the airport to your month.

November 1 to April 30: the Teton Park Road is closed from Taggart Lake Trailhead to Signal Mountain Lodge, and the Moose-Wilson Road stays closed until mid-May. The main highways, US 89/191 and US 26/287, are plowed and open from Jackson to Flagg Ranch, so Jackson Hole still works. NPS says to use winter or all-season tires and carry chains on mountain passes, which matters on the drive in from Idaho Falls.

Mid-May to October: every airport works, and Idaho Falls can reach the Granite Canyon Entrance too. Pick by flights. In 2026, allow for construction: a new roundabout just north of the Moose Entrance adds delays of 20 minutes through November 15, not counting the entrance line, and the Moose-Wilson Road is closed between the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve and Moose from September 8 to November 15.

Heading on to Yellowstone in winter? NPS notes that Yellowstone's roads are closed to motorized vehicles in winter except Mammoth Hot Springs to Cooke City, so you can't drive north from Grand Teton into Yellowstone then. Jackson Hole or a bigger airport?

We don't publish fares. What sets them is how many nonstop routes an airport has, and whether your trip needs a connection. Jackson Hole lists four airlines with year-round flights, Alaska, American, Delta and United, but its pages give no destination count. Idaho Falls lists five airlines and 12 nonstop destinations. Salt Lake City has more than 330 daily departures to 100 nonstop destinations.

So the trade is time on the road against flight choice. Jackson Hole puts you 6 miles from the park. Idaho Falls adds 2 h 27 min of driving, and Salt Lake City 5 h 59 min, each way.

Jackson Hole closes at 11 p.m. and opens at 4 a.m., and you can't wait out the night in the terminal or in a parked car. Plan connections so you land well before closing. The nearest hotels are in the town of Jackson, about 9 miles south of the airport.

Rental cars, rides, and entrance fees.

Rent the car at the airport. Jackson Hole's FAQ and rental page both put Avis & Budget, Enterprise and National in the terminal, and Dollar and Thrifty in the town of Jackson, 9 miles south, with free shuttles from the center island outside the terminal. The two pages disagree on Hertz, so confirm its location with Hertz. At Idaho Falls, rental cars are on the arrival side, toward baggage claim. Salt Lake City's are in the Gateway Center next to the parking garage.

No car? NPS names no public bus, train or park shuttle. Jackson Hole Airport says some lodges run shuttles if you book ahead with your lodging, and taxis, rideshare apps, shuttles and executive drivers work from the airport, some by reservation only.

The highway through the park has no fee, so the Moose Entrance is one of the first places you'll pay. If no one is at the booth, you can drive through and pay online. The park doesn't accept cash, and Yellowstone charges its own separate entrance fee; prices are on our Grand Teton fees page.

Is Jackson Hole a hard airport to fly into?

Neither the airport nor NPS says anything about that on the pages we checked, so we won't guess. What the airport does publish: Alaska, American, Delta and United fly there year-round, it closes from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m., and you can't sleep in the terminal or in a car on airport property, because it's inside the park.

What is the closest town to Grand Teton National Park?

Jackson, Wyoming. The airport says the town is about 9 miles south of the terminal, and NPS says the Moose Entrance is about 20 miles north of Jackson on US 26/89/191, then a mile west from Moose Junction. Idaho Falls (104 road miles) and Salt Lake City (295) are the nearest cities with the other airports on this page.
