Which airport for Arches?

NPS names three airports that most Arches visitors fly into. The park has one entrance station, north of Moab, and one visitor center just inside it, five miles north of town. Every drive ends there, so the choice is about flights and time on the road, not about an entrance. Canyonlands Regional in Moab is the short drive with few routes. Grand Junction and Salt Lake City are the long drives.

Every airport-to-entrance drive.

Every airport's drive to the Arches Entrance Station. NPS lists shorter airport mileages without naming the exact point. Ours are road miles to the entrance station itself. The park is normally open year-round, 24 hours a day.

From Moab's airport the drive is only 24 min. From Grand Junction it's 1 h 56 min, and from Salt Lake City 4 h 37 min, a long drive on top of a flight. NPS says the park is very busy between March and October and recommends entering before 8 am or after 3 pm to avoid traffic. After a long drive, an arrival after 3 pm is easy to plan. Moab, Grand Junction, or Salt Lake City?

We don't publish fares. What sets them is how many routes an airport has, and whether your trip needs a connection. Canyonlands Regional has three: Contour to Phoenix and Denver every day, and Redtail to Salt Lake City twice a week. Grand County says dates and times vary with the seasons, so check the schedule before you build a trip around it. If you aren't starting in Phoenix, Denver or Salt Lake City, flying to Moab means a connection.

Salt Lake City is the biggest choice, with more than 330 daily departures to 100 nonstop destinations, per the airport. Grand Junction is the middle option on the drive, 110 miles from the entrance. We couldn't read its airport's own site, so we don't list its airlines here. Check with the airline before you book.

Canyonlands National Park is next door. NPS says UT 313, from US 191 north of Moab, leads to its Island in the Sky district, so the same airports work for both parks.

Rental cars, trains, and getting around.

NPS says most people arrive at Arches by car, and its directions page says there's no public transportation inside the park, so you may need to rent a car, ride a bicycle or take a commercial tour to get around.

This fall there's a new option. On September 10, 2026, NPS announced the Moab-Arches Shuttle, which runs from downtown Moab to the Arches Visitor Center, and from the visitor center to the Windows and the Delicate Arch trailhead. It runs every day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through October 31, 2026, with pickups every 15 to 30 minutes, and rides are free with a valid park pass. The last shuttle from Delicate Arch leaves at 4:05 p.m. NPS doesn't say it stops at any airport (NPS shuttle announcement).

Salt Lake City's rental counters are in the Gateway Center, next to the parking garage and reached from baggage claim over two bridges. We couldn't confirm a rental desk at Canyonlands Regional or Grand Junction, so sort out a car before you fly.

Not flying? NPS says Amtrak's California Zephyr stops at Green River, Utah, 45 miles from the park entrance, and at Grand Junction, Colorado. Greyhound serves both towns. Commercial van services and taxis run between Grand Junction, Green River and Moab, and NPS points to discovermoab.com for a list. It names no operator, schedule or price.

No timed-entry reservation is required in 2026, but you still need an entrance pass, and Devils Garden Campground and Fiery Furnace hikes still need reservations; our Arches reservations page has the details.
