Try a short paved walk in Saguaro East
The Desert Ecology Trail is a quarter-mile (0.4 km) loop off Cactus Forest Loop Drive in the east district. It has a paved surface, benches and educational signs about desert plants. It is a manageable-length option if you want a short nature walk rather than a mountain hike.
NPS describes the trail as built to ADA standards; check actual surface and access conditions if mobility matters to your visit. Confirm the east-district destination, because Tucson separates it from Saguaro West.
Keep the weather plan specific to your route
Tucson Airport averages 0.84 inches of January precipitation. These lowland normals are a planning reference, not the day's forecast. Bring layers for the normal 41°F (5°C) low and check weather before leaving.
Higher-elevation trails can be affected by winter snow, with drifts persisting for months in wet winters. A mild short walk near the desert floor does not establish conditions farther up the Rincon Mountains. Ask about that route separately.
Questions about January
Is January a good time to visit Saguaro National Park?
January is a cooler lowland walking choice, with cold mornings and evenings to prepare for. Match the route to your ability and check weather; higher mountain trails can have winter snow.
Is the Desert Ecology Trail a long hike?
No. NPS lists it as a quarter-mile loop in the east district, with pavement, benches and interpretive signs. Check actual conditions and access before relying on it for a mobility-specific outing.
