Getting around in winter
Check the parking list before you drive and expect ice or packed snow on trails.
Keep winter hikes modest
Use a trail map, tell someone your route and return time, and stay back from bluff edges. Do not climb the Ledges rocks.
Things to do in winter
Walking works without snow. Skiing, snowshoeing and sledding depend on the surface.
Brandywine Falls and the Ledges
Brandywine Falls develops winter ice, but its boardwalk can close in icy conditions. The Ledges can have dramatic icicles; stay back from bluff edges.
Kendall Hills sledding
Use the designated sledding area on Quick Road. Stay clear of ski trails and trees; pets are prohibited during sledding.
Snowshoes or skis
Ledges Field is flat beginner ski terrain; Oak Hill has an easy-to-moderate loop. NPS also lists flatter Towpath and hillier routes. Yield to skiers and keep out of their tracks.
