Georgia has more than ten NPS units, anchored by Cumberland Island National Seashore (ferry-only access from St. Marys) and the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park (Atlanta). Other units include Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, Andersonville National Historic Site, Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park (jointly with TN), Fort Frederica, Fort Pulaski, Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park, Jimmy Carter National Historical Park, and segments of the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail. Atlanta (ATL) is the dominant anchor; Savannah (SAV) reaches the coastal units. Cumberland Island visits require advance ferry reservations and are best fall through spring (summer brings dense humidity and biting insects). The MLK historical park operates year-round with January peaks around the King holiday.

Methodology

Unit list and per-unit visit counts come from the official NPS Visitor Use Statistics Data Package, 2025. The "5-year average visits" column is the mean of 2021-2025 Recreation Visits. Multi-state NPS units (Yellowstone, Death Valley, Great Smoky Mountains and others) are listed under every state they touch; the per-unit visit count is the unit's total, not a per-state share.
