Reading the shape of the year.

Spring counts are close together. March averages 97% of the April peak and May 95%. Moving between those months makes a smaller difference than moving to the autumn low-count months.

October has fewer visits than November. October averages 21,236 visits (55% of the peak), while November averages 24,668 (63%). These are whole-month comparisons, not forecasts for a holiday weekend.

The lowest count is not a hiking recommendation. NPS describes hot conditions and exposed trails. Use the best-time guide to weigh weather and cave limitations alongside these counts.

Months with intermediate visit counts

August, September, October, and December average 30% to under 60% of the peak. This is a count band, not a weather or access recommendation. For the full "so when should I actually go?" verdict, which weighs crowds against weather and road access, see the Pinnacles best-time-to-visit page.

What these numbers measure

Each figure averages recreation visits for that calendar month across 2021–2025, from the NPS Visitor Use Statistics Data Package, 2025. Each percentage divides that mean by the highest monthly mean. The reporting unit is Pinnacles National Park, code PINN.

These are visits, not unique people. Monthly totals cannot separate the east and west entrances, individual trails, weekdays, holidays or hours. They do not predict parking, campsite availability or a queue. We are independent of the National Park Service.

Common questions.

When is Pinnacles National Park least crowded?

September has the fewest average recreation visits at 19,821, or 51% of the peak. It remains a hot-weather hiking month, and a low park-wide count cannot guarantee a quiet trail or parking space.

Is March or April busier at Pinnacles?

April averages 38,961 recreation visits, compared with March's 37,688. March is 97% of April's total, so both are near the annual monthly peak.

Can this calendar identify the quietest weekday or arrival time?

No. Monthly totals cannot distinguish weekdays, weekends, holidays or hours. Check official parking and arrival guidance for the day you plan to visit; this chart cannot promise a parking space.

Does lower visitation mean a campsite will be available?

No. Whole-park recreation visits do not measure campground occupancy or booking availability. Check the campground's own booking information separately.
